Kerala’s Women Entrepreneurship To Get Global Visibility – WE Summit 2015
To showcase the remarkable achievement of the State in promoting women entrepreneurship, the government through the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) is holding Women Entrepreneurs Summit (WE Summit 2015) on November 19, the United Nations’ Women’s Entrepreneurship Day’.
The announcement was made by Industries and IT Minister Shri P K Kunhalikutty at the Interface Programme of KSIDC in Thiruvanthapuram where over 600 women entrepreneurs from the district participated.
The WE Summit, to be held in Kochi, will showcase Kerala’s progress in women entrepreneurship to the global community, besides further strengthening the cause of women entrepreneurs by offering a platform for future collaborations and networking. The event is held as part of KSIDC’s ‘WE Mission – Kerala’ initiative, Kunhalikutty said.
The website of the WE Mission initiative (www.wemissionkerala.org) was launched by Principal Secretary (Industries and IT) P H Kurian. KSIDC MD Dr M Beena, Kudumbashree Executive Director K B Valsalakumari, KSIDC Executive Director B Jyothi Kumar were also present.
“Kerala has already made major headways in the economic empowerment of women by creating a proper ecosystem for them to thrive upon and flourish. In this backdrop, KSIDC has embarked upon a path-breaking initiative, the WE-Mission Kerala, which aims at triggering the growth of women-led enterprises through comprehensive support measures,” Kunhalikutty said.
WE Mission – Kerala is the latest in a series of initiatives launched by KSIDC to promote entrepreneurship in recent times after its much-lauded Young Entrepreneurship Summit, Business Incubation Centres, Startup-Bootcamp and Angel Funding support.
The event will see the participation of over 2000 women entrepreneurs from the state, over 200 exhibitors and several national and international agencies.
The Summit would see sector specific discussions, one to one interactive meetings, and exhibition of products to boost women’s entrepreneurship in the state. The Summit is being held with close coordination with Kudumbashree and MSME-DIC (Micro Small & Medium Enterprises, Department of Industries and Commerce).
The event will also honour best women-led entrepreneurs in Kerala, declaring the state women ambassadors, award for best exhibitors, among other things.
The sectors in focus at the event will be garments, education, agriculture, food processing, light engineering, retail and hospitality.
The government is also organising Interface programme in various districts to attract women into entrepreneurship.
