Young Entrepreneur Summit – An Overview

YES! It’s done. History has been made and that too, moulded by the hands of a community that envisions the growth of entrepreneurship in the state of Kerala.

 

Young Entrepreneurs Summit (YES), the flagship event of Kerala in terms of building and fostering the growth of entrepreneurship in young minds, concluded with flying colours and vibrant hues. Intended to showcase the existing facilities and support services available, the event was successful in creation of a holistic ecosystem conducive for young entrepreneurs.

 

Starting off with the Welcome Speech by Mr P H Kurian IAS, Ms Aruna Sundararajan IAS, MD, KSIDC followed up with an overview of YES. The Inaugural Ceremony was further highlighted with Presidential Address by Shri P K Kunhalikutty, Hon. Minister for Industries and IT, Lighting the lamp and Official Inauguration by Shri K Babu, Hon Minister (Fisheries, Ports and Excise), virtual inauguration of Exposition by Shri V K Ebrahim Kunju, Hon Minister for Public Works, followed by felicitation by Shri Jose Thettayil, MLA. Mr Pranav Kumar, CEO, Startup Village proposed the vote of thanks.

The Inaugural Ceremony was followed by forenoon Parallel sessions on

  • Agriculture and Food Processing
  • Electronics and Digital Media
  • Tourism
  • Business Innovation and Green Technologies

The brisk lunch was followed by the afternoon series of parallel sessions on –

  • Healthcare and Life Sciences
  • Manufacturing and Allied Sectors
  • Information Technology

The first event of the Closing Ceremony was aptly titled – “Igniting the Flame of Entrepreneurship”.

 

“For the present generation to stay in Kerala, we need to focus on building a stable economy to support their entrepreneurial dreams. They have the style and flair to think different! ” – Shri. PH Kurian IAS, in his Welcome Address at the Closing Ceremony

 

Ms Aruna Sundararajan, MD, KSIDC presented her ideas on the path forward in the state for entrepreneurship, after YES.

The Flame of Entrepreneurship

“This meet has truly opened the eyes of the state and the community in accepting the fact that the entrepreneurial mindset in the present young generation is here to stay. We ensure that YES would act as a springboard to achieve the dream of youth to build successful enterprises. As the pioneers in setting up such a support, we extend our full support to the youth in this endeavor. At the close of this day we are convinced that there is a permanent change in the entrepreneurship in Kerala”,  she said.

 

In what was to be one of the most vibrant talk of the day, Shri P K Kunhalikutty, Hon. Minister (Industries and IT) said – “There will be very good follow up for what we say here today. Events like this, aim at making a stable growing economy for the state by the creation of employment and entrepreneurship”. He also officially launched the KSIDC Angel Fund of Rs 20 Crores for development of startups in the state (Upto 25 Lakhs for a single startup). Adding the cherry to the top, Mr Yusuf Ali, MD, Emke Group, added his contribution of Rs 2 Crores seed fund, as his support in paving a smoother path ahead for the young entrepreneurs of tomorrow.

Shri. K.M. Mani, Hon. Minister (Finance, Law and Planning) in his key note address welcomed all young entrepreneurs to start up their own business and iterated their wholehearted support from KFC and the Government. He also virtually Inaugurated Kerala’s first Women’s Incubator at Assumption College, Changanacherry

 

The Closing Ceremony also saw eminent dignitaries like Shri Oommen Chandy, Chief Minister, Kerala and Shri Bharat Joshi, British Deputy High Commissioner, Chennai take their place on the dais and share their perspectives in support of the event.

In his inspiring speech, Mr Chandy conveyed the importance Emerging Kerala played in striking up the trend of entrepreneurship with inclusion of student entrepreneurship policy in 2012. This was the first such initiative of its kind and he felt proud that Kerala was brave enough to do the same. More details of the CM’s proceedings for the day can be found here.

“It’s a real exalting moment to see that students now are becoming job creators and not job seekers. I stand before you here, today, to convey to you the message and promise that this Government will forever be with you in supporting the young entrepreneurs here grow and prosper and bring more glory to the state”, he added.

Prizes

 

The Winners for the Innovative Idea Contest which KSIDC had conducted before YES, was declared and prizes given out to the winners. The list of the winners is as shown above.

 

As the day came to a close, the intensity was evident in the air. Thousands of dreams were shown a ray of light to follow in this chaotic world. The brave ones, the ones who had the entrepreneurial DNA imbibed in them, were at peace. For they had just witnessed history in making. A history, they were sure destined to be a part of.
